The last few months, I have been taking a hard look at how much “stuff” I own. I realise that I have way, way too many things that are cluttering up my life. I have been going through my clothes, books, and things to see what I don’t need anymore and asking myself, “Do I really need to hold onto this?”
These are hard things to go through. When I moved to Kelowna, I was able to do so with one truck load and a few boxes in my car. Granted, I didn’t have any big furniture like I do now. I didn’t need my bed because my new place had one. I didn’t need a table, because my new place had one. The space was too small for a couch or chairs. I didn’t have a dresser, so I had to keep my clothing to a minimum.
Today, I have a fully stocked kitchen with all of the appliances. I have a full living room setup with sofa and side tables. I have a few tables and chair sets. I have a few decks and sets of drawers. I have way too many clothing pieces that I never wear. I have a buffet filled with inherited fine china and flatware.
I am now asking myself the hard questions of what can I let go of and how can I downsize this junk pile?
I started reading “Spark Joy” by, Marie Kondo. Her method of decluttering is to go through all of your things and ask yourself the question, “Does this item ‘Speak Joy’ within me?” Her method also asks that you take the item that no longer sparks joy within you and thank it for being part of your life. I have not start my Marie Kondo method of decluttering yet, I have been waiting until I can go through my garage storage. Right now, it’s too cold to be in there and I want to make sure that I give it all my full attention.
I am on a mission to make more space in my life so that I can focus more on teaching yoga. I want to make teaching yoga my full time career. I know that this is going to take some time to make happen but there are things that I can do in my life to create space for me to be a better yoga teacher. Making literally more space in my home is the first part to doing that.
